INVITATION

The Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics of the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences in collaboration with Institute of Rock Structure and Mechan-ics of the Academy of Sciences, and the Section of the Geodynamics, Committee of Geodesy of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Centre for Earth Dynamics Research of the Czech Republic, are pleased to extend an invitation to the 8th Workshop on Recent Geodynamics of the Sudeten and Adjacent Areas. The Workshop will be held in Klodzko on March 29-31, 2007.

You are hereby invited to contribute papers to this Czech-Polish Workshop. The Meeting will be a unique chance to benefit from the scientific programme, to have a fruitful exchange of knowledge, to foster new friendships and explore the potential of further scientific collaboration in the Sudety Mts. region.

VENUE AND DATE

The Workshop will take place at the Hotel METRO in Boguszyn near Kłodzko. It is the new hotel, opened in 2005, conveniently situated on the North of Kłodzko Valley, close to International road No. 8 (E-67) Wrocław - Prague - Vienna, 2 km from Kłodzko, 80 km from Wroclaw, 30 km from Kudowa Zdrój. Web page of the hotel: http://hotelmetro.pl/.

The Kłodzko Valley and the surrounding mountains are a part of the central and eastern Sudety Mts. - in the west, towards the south direction we can see Suche Mountains, Stołowe Mountains, Orlickie Mountains and Bystrzyckie Mountains; while in the east, towards the south, Złote Mountains, Bialskie Mountains and the Śnieżnik Massif. In the north the Kłodzko Valley is closed with Bardzkie and Sowie Mountains. Due to changing turns in history this area was a place where the influences of Czech, Austrian, German and Polish cultures were mixing with each other continually. The inhabitants arrived here from various directions, therefore they are "hard-working, not soft but hard, reliable but compassionate ... good-humoured and joyous". Fourteen towns and communes of the Kłodzko district: Bystrzyca Kłodzka, Duszniki Zdrój, Kłodzko (town and commune), Kudowa Zdrój, Lądek Zdrój, Lewin Kłodzki, Międzylesie, Nowa Ruda (town and commune), Polanica Zdrój, Radków, Stronie Śląskie and Szczytna are placed in a beautiful environment: high placed observation points, interesting groups of rocks, roaring waterfalls, romantic ruins, monumental buildings, interesting industrial objects. Each of them offers something else, attractive and mysterious.

The Kłodzko Land is a country with a unique landscape, sightseeing attractions, monumental palaces, castles, the old town in Kłodzko with its fortress, underground labyrinths, collections and exhibitions of the Regional Museum, monumental Paper Mill in Duszniki Zdrój, Museum of Matches in Bystrzyca Kłodzka, Skansen museum and the Chapel of Skulls in Kudowa Zdrój, Museum of Underground Mining in Nowa Ruda and many other attractions. There are also places of pilgrimage to the Holy Virgin in Igliczna Mountain, Wambierzyce - the Lower Silesian Jerusalem, Bardo with a famous basilica at the foot of which a picturesque gorge of Nysa Kłodzka starts. It is impossible to forget a monumental fortress in Srebrna Góra, at the outskirts of the Kłodzko Land and old mining town - Złoty Stok with a gold mine open for visitors.
