Seminarium naukowe IGiG - Prof. Thomas P. Kersten

IGiG zaprasza na seminarium naukowe, które odbędzie się dnia 6.03.2024 r. (czwartek) o godzinie 9:00 w bibliotece IGiG - pok. 100G, ul. Grunwaldzka 53, Wrocław (bud. C1). Prof. Thomas P. Kersten z Uniwersytetu HafenCity w Hamburgu wygłosi wykład pt.: "Historical 3D City Models as an Immersive Experience in Virtual Reality”.

Streszczenie: Wirtualna rzeczywistość staje się przystępnym i interesującym narzędziem do wizualizacji w różnych dziedzinach, takich jak architektura, planowanie przestrzenne czy ochrona zabytków. Jest to możliwe dzięki rosnącym możliwościom technologii dokumentacji i modelowania 3D. W związku z tym pojawia się coraz większa potrzeba opracowania skutecznych metod tworzenia szczegółowych, immersyjnych środowisk wirtualnych 3D. Technologia ta staje się tym samym atrakcyjną formą przekazywania wiedzy dla instytucji, takich jak muzea i inne placówki edukacyjne o profilu kulturalnym, które często działają w ramach ograniczonych budżetów.

W prezentacji przedstawione zostaną różne metody tworzenia interaktywnych, immersyjnych aplikacji wirtualnej rzeczywistości dla czterech historycznych modeli 3D niemieckich miast: Segeberg 1644 r., Stade 1620 r., Duisburg 1588 r. oraz Hamburg 1024 r. Podstawą tego przedsięwzięcia jest pozyskiwanie danych za pomocą metod fotogrametrycznych i skanowania laserowego, uzupełnionych historycznymi mapami i perspektywami. Powstałe w tym procesie chmury punktów są następnie wykorzystywane do generowania trójwymiarowych modeli krajobrazów miejskich. Modele te są dalej przetwarzane w silniku gier, co ostatecznie prowadzi do stworzenia aplikacji wirtualnej rzeczywistości.

Thomas P. Kersten (Head of Photogrammetry & Laser Scanning Lab at HafenCity University Hamburg) graduated from the University of Hannover (Germany) in Geodesy in 1988. From 1989 to 1995 he worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Institute of Geodesy and photogrammetry (Chair of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) at the ETH Zurich (Switzerland). From 1995 to 2000 he was Head of the Photogrammetry Department and Member of the Board of Swissphoto AG. Since 2001 he has been Professor of Photogrammetry & Practical Geodesy at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, and since 2006 he has held the same position as Professor of Photogrammetry & Laser Scanning at the HafenCity University Hamburg. In 2017 he completed his PhD at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany.

His main research interests are in the automation of 3D data acquisition and modelling, and sensor integration and calibration. Recent research has focused on virtual reality. Author of more than 240 scientific publications in journals and international conferences, he has organised ten scientific events in the field of geomatics and photogrammetry and three summer schools for cultural heritage documentation in Trondheim/Norway and archaeology in Vila Pouca de Aguiar/Portugal. He is a member of the German Society for Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geoinformation (DGPF), where he was editor of the journal PFG for four years, chairman of the working group "Optical 3D Measurement Techniques" for six years, and currently chairman of the working group "Virtual & Augmented Reality", as well as regular programme committee member of conferences and reviewer for related journals.
