1st GATHERS summer school - POLAND
16-09-2022

Summer school 2022 of the Twinning Project „GATHERS – Integration of Geodetic and imAging TecHniques for monitoring and modelling the Earths surface defoRmations and Seismic risk” will be take place in September 19 th - 24 th 2022, hosted by the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics of Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (UPWr).

The Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics (IGiG) at UPWr will host a summer school in the upcoming week. The first part of the summer school will start in Wroclaw, while the second part will take place in Rybnik, in the Historical mine Ignacy.

During that week, 26 participants from 8 different countries will visit Wrocław and Rybnik. They will get to know how different geodetic techniques are being used for efficient analysis of deformations of the Earth’s surface:
  • Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR)
  • Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR)
  • Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) as a seismology tool
In addition, more details about the GATHERS’ MSc and PhD trainings on InSAR, LiDAR and GNSS seismology for studying the man-made hazards will be presented. Some of the highest-ranking European scientists, partners in the GATHERS project, Prof. Ramon Hanssen (TU Delft), Prof. Mattia Crespi (La Sapienza University of Rome) and Prof. Norbert Pfeifer (TU Wien), and their teams, will arrive in Poland to provide theoretical but also practical classes in collaboration with the IGiG team. The summer school implies field measurements, a Workshop and soft-skills training as international networking events.

Detailed information about the summer school are presented on www.gathers.eu/summerschool2022/.
