On November 20–21, 2025, the international conference "3rd GEOBENCH Workshop" was held at the NOT building in Wrocław. The event was organized by a team from the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (UPWr) in collaboration with partners from Poland, Germany, and Italy. The Patronate over the was taken by the Rector of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Prof. Krzysztof Kubiak.
The GEOBENCH Workshop is one of two recurring scientific events of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). Following successful previous editions in Warsaw (2019) and Kraków (2023), this year the conference was organized in Wrocław.
The scope of the GEOBENCH Workshop includes:
- Testing and validation of passive/active sensors (camera, scanners, GNSS, etc.) and platforms (satellite, UAV, UGV, ROV, AUV, MMS, airborne, etc.)
- Benchmarking methods and algorithms (image matching, SLAM, PPP/RTK, MVS, point cloud generation and classification, image segmentation, feature extraction, object detection, fusion, NeRF, Scan2BIM, etc.)
- Proposals for new benchmarks for 3D reconstruction and mapping purposes in forestry, heritage, industry, agriculture, mining, AEC, etc.
- Geometric calibration of sensors and systems (optical sensors, LiDAR/SPL/GM, Radar, MMS, robotics, bathymetry, etc.)
- Radiometric calibration of sensors (RGB, thermal, multispectral and hyperspectral)
- Quantitative evaluations and analyses
This year edition was the largest to date, gathering over 70 participants (mostly from abroad) representing 13 countries and over 20 research institutions.
Keynote lectures were delivered by renowned scientists from Germany, Austria, and Norway:- Prof. Uwe Sörgel from the University of Stuttgart (Germany) discussed the topic of crowdsourcing in remote sensing.
- Prof. Gottfried Mandlburger from TU Wien (Austria) presented the development and current technological status of lightweight LiDAR sensors used on unmanned platforms.
- Prof. Rasmus Astrup from the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO) discussed the challenges of testing LiDAR data processing algorithms in forestry.
Additionally, 25 papers were presented across 8 thematic sessions, 10 posters were displayed, and participants also had the opportunity to listen to 4 presentations by representatives of the companies sponsoring the event.
The organization of the event was led by
Prof. Grzegorz Jóźków from the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics. He was supported in scientific matters by Prof. Dorota Iwaszczuk (Technical University of Darmstadt), Prof. Krzysztof Bakuła (Warsaw University of Technology), and Prof. Fabio Remondino (Bruno Kessler Foundation, Trento). Organizational support was provided by employees and PhD students from the Institute: Dr. Małgorzata Jarząbek-Rychard, Dr. Edyta Hadaś, M.Sc. Natalia Wielgocka, M.Sc., Dorota Włodarczyk, M.Sc., Krzysztof Stasch, and M.Sc. Adam Pałęcki, M.Sc.
The event was very well received by participants regarding both its scientific quality and organization. Attendees expressed a desire to return to Wrocław and to participate in future editions of the GEOBENCH Workshop.
