AI Applications in Tropospheric Analysis and Weather Forecasting

The Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics (IGiG) is pleased to invite you to a scientific seminar taking place on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM in Room 100G (Institute Library), Grunwaldzka Street 53, Wrocław (Building C1). Dr. Saeid Haji-Aghajany will discuss the subject of: "AI Applications in Tropospheric Analysis and Weather Forecasting".
Summary: AI has recently become increasingly integrated into weather forecasting and meteorology, revolutionizing how we predict and understand atmospheric conditions. In this presentation, I will explore AI’s contribution to troposphere analysis and weather forecasting. Through the analysis of state-of-the-art AI-based weather forecasting models, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of current models and explain why AI models are not yet ready to fully replace traditional models, but are instead complementing them to enhance the field. In the next part of the presentation, I will focus on how remote sensing techniques, such as GNSS and InSAR, contribute to improving the accuracy of current forecasting models. By highlighting the work done by our team over the past two years, I will demonstrate the synergy between AI models and remote sensing technologies, showcasing a way forward in achieving more accurate and reliable forecasts.
Bio: Saeid Haji-Aghajany is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Wrocław, Poland. He is actively working on improving the understanding of the troposphere using remote sensing techniques, including GNSS and InSAR, as well as advancing the application of AI in the field. During his educational career, he was recognized as an elite scholar and supported by the Iran National Elites Foundation. He is the author or co-author of more than 25 peer-reviewed journal papers related to geodesy, remote sensing, and AI. In his entrepreneurial career, he co-founded a company specializing in terrestrial and satellite surveying services.
